Description

In this inquiry- based style session, participants will investigate the varied responses of states to the COVID-19 pandemic. Using economic data and snapshots of states’ levels of reopening, participants will evaluate the decisions faced by state governments in seeking to ensure the health and safety of its citizens, while also focusing on economic stability.

Examine how selected states decided to distribute emergency funding and unemployment insurance extensions. Further inquiry into this topic will address the extent to which states supported educational needs during extended school closures and addressed local budget shortfalls.

In the end, participants will determine whether the actions of state governments effectively dealt with the uncertainties imposed by COVID-19 without causing undue economic instability.
