Council for Economic Education
The Council for Economic Education (www.councilforeconed.org) was founded 60 years ago to ensure that children were educated in economics in order to understand the world in which they lived. Today, our mission has broadened, to promote economic and financial literacy, so that every child can learn to make reasoned and responsible decisions throughout their lives as individuals, as family members, as voters and as participants in our increasing complex global economy. We accomplish our mission by doing three things:
- Developing great content
We offer comprehensive, best-in-class K-12 economic and personal finance education programs, including the basics of entrepreneurship, consisting of teaching resources across the curriculum, professional development for teachers, and nationally-nor med assessment instruments.- Equipping the educators
Each year, the Council's programs reach more than 150,000 K-12 teachers and over 15 million students in the United States and in more than 30 other countries. These programs are delivered through a diversified system: directly from the Council, through a network of affiliated state Councils and university-based Centers for Economic Education, and through other partner organizations.- Engaging to make it stick
We engage our various constituents in several ways: our legislatures through advocacy programs to encourage standards for financial and economic literacy at the state and federal levels, and our students through national competitions, such as the National Economics Challenge.
If you are a K-12 teacher and you would like to get involved with the Council for Economic Education, please consider joining the Global Association of Teachers of Economics (GATE) organization.
